Small Bathroom Vanity: How to Choose the Right Size When Space Is the Constraint

Choosing a small bathroom vanity is a different problem than choosing any other vanity — the constraint is the room, not the preference. You're not deciding what you want; you're deciding what fits and then finding the best version of that within the footprint. This guide covers how to measure correctly for a small bathroom, which sizes work in which footprints, and which configurations at Yala Vanity deliver the best result in a compact space.

Small bathroom vanities typically run from 18 to 36 inches wide. The floating (wall-mounted) configuration makes any width read as larger by keeping the floor continuous. At Yala Vanity, compact options include the Vanderloc Gilded (floating, 24–36 inches, custom-width), Vinnova Alistair 24" and 36" singles (floating, countertop included), and Water Creation compact freestanding options (Madalyn 24", Queen 24", Brandy 24"). Free shipping across the continental USA. See the small floating vanity guide for floating-specific options.

How to Measure a Small Bathroom for a Vanity

Three measurements, in order of importance:

Clear wall span — the unobstructed horizontal space on your vanity wall, measured between obstacles: door swings, toilet tanks, shower curbs, wall corners. This is your maximum cabinet width. A common mistake is measuring wall-to-wall and ordering to that dimension, only to find the door can't open because it hits the vanity. Measure from the closest obstacle on each side, not from wall to wall.

Depth clearance — how far into the room the vanity can project. Standard vanity depth is 21–22 inches. In a very narrow bathroom (less than 5 feet wide), this may be the binding constraint. Some shallow-depth vanities run 18 inches — worth knowing if depth is your real problem.

Toilet clearance — the centerline of an adjacent toilet should be at least 15 inches from the nearest edge of the vanity. This is a code requirement in most jurisdictions, not just a preference. If the toilet is on the vanity wall, its position limits how wide the vanity can be regardless of wall span.

Best Small Bathroom Vanities at Yala Vanity

Vanderloc Gilded 24–36 inch — floating, solid wood, custom-width in 1-inch increments. If your alcove measures 27 or 31 or 34 inches, the Gilded is built to fit. Slab-front design reads as contemporary regardless of the bathroom's overall character. Custom paint in any color. 21-day US lead time.

Vinnova Alistair 24" and 36" Single — floating, countertop and sink included, ready to ship. The Alistair 24" is the smallest complete floating vanity configuration at Yala Vanity. At approximately $793 (24") and $993 (36"), these are the most accessible floating singles by price. White Grain Stone countertop included.

Water Creation Madalyn 24" — freestanding, assembled, traditional profile. For small bathrooms that are more traditional in character, or where floating installation isn't feasible, the Madalyn 24" in Carrara White is a clean, complete solution. Countertop and basin included.

Water Creation Queen 24" — freestanding, Pure White, transitional. The smallest configuration in the Queen line. Same quality as the larger Queen sizes, just compressed to fit a small footprint.

Floating vs. Freestanding for Small Bathrooms

Floating wins in a small bathroom specifically because it makes the room look larger. The floor plane continuing under the vanity visually extends the room — this effect is more pronounced in a small bathroom because any visual trick that expands the space is more noticeable. If the wall structure supports it, floating is worth the additional installation work in a compact bathroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the smallest vanity Yala Vanity sells?

The Vinnova Alistair 24" is the smallest complete floating vanity (cabinet + countertop + sink). Vanderloc builds to custom widths as small as 24 inches. The Water Creation Madalyn 24" is the smallest freestanding option.

Is a floating vanity better for a small bathroom?

Generally yes — the floating profile keeps the floor continuous, making the room read as larger. In a small bathroom, this visual effect is more meaningful than in a large one.

Does Yala Vanity ship small bathroom vanities free?

Yes — all vanities, including compact configurations, ship free across the continental USA.
